It’s comforting to know that we are not left to navigate life alone and we can move forward in faith with our Guardian and Protector. As believers, we have the assurance that God’s protection surrounds us like a hedge, shielding us from harm and guiding us through every season. Psalm 139:5 and Psalm 34:7 reminds us of God’s constant presence and care.
God’s Presence
Psalm 139:5 says, “You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.” God “hems us in,” thus surrounding us completely. It’s as if He builds an invisible, divine hedge around us, ensuring that nothing can touch us without His permission. He protects our hearts, minds, and souls from the attacks of the enemy. When we feel overwhelmed by life’s circumstances, we can rest in the knowledge that God is with us, enclosing us with His love and power. His hand is upon us, guiding, comforting, and strengthening us in every moment.
Angels Encamped
Psalm 34:7 adds another layer to this truth of His protection. “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.” God’s protection is not only His presence but also His heavenly agents—His angels—who are actively working on our behalf. “Encamp” implies a constant, vigilant presence. Just as an army sets up camp to guard a territory, God’s angels surround us, ready to defend and deliver us from harm. God’s protection is personal because He knows each of us intimately and cares for us deeply. His protection is also powerful because His angels are mighty warriors, capable of overcoming any force that comes against us when we speak His word. When we walk in reverence and trust in God, we can be confident that He is watching over us and His angels respond to words that sound like God.
God‘s hedge around us is a powerful reminder of His love and faithfulness. Psalm 139:5 and Psalm 34:7 assure us that we are never alone—God is always with us, surrounding us with His presence and His angels.
