Is building your faith a continuous effort that you should pursue?
This post provides foundational scriptures to reflect upon faith. Scriptures are presented in both the King James Version (KJV) and the Amplified Bible (AMP). The first idea on faith to consider here is:
Who is the Source of faith? Does faith just appear from nothing?
We know that faith comes through hearing God’s Word.
| So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. So faith comes from hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the [preaching of the] message concerning Christ. | KJV AMP |
What is the definition of faith, really? What are your thoughts on understanding faith and its relationship to development?
Simply put, faith is trusting and believing.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith perceives as real fact what is not revealed to the senses]. | KJV AMP |
Is our faith perfect or powerful? Which one is really needed, perfection or power? Faith as a grain of a mustard seed is powerful and it is perfect when it is genuine. How does that happen? Hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17), prayer, depending upon the Holy Spirit, and holding onto your profession of faith.
| …If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. …I assure you and most solemnly say to you, if you have [living] faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and [if it is God’s will] it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. | KJV AMP |
As you have probably gathered from previous posts on this site, we can build up our faith. How does that happen? Hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17), prayer, we depend upon the Holy Spirit and hold onto our profession of faith.
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost. But you, beloved, build yourselves up on [the foundation of] your most holy faith [continually progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], pray in the Holy Spirit. | KJV AMP |
Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised). Let us seize and hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable and trustworthy and faithful [to His word]. | KJV AMP |
We stay focused on Jesus Christ who is the Source, having authored our faith and the finisher of it. Why is it important to stay focused and intentional when building faith to expand its capacity to get results? Our success rate to keep from wavering in faith is higher when we stay focused on our Messiah.
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith… [looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity]. | KJV AMP |
