Planting Mustard Seeds for Tomorrow

What if tomorrow’s harvest begins with one small, intentional seed today? While some may prefer to let life simply unfold without setting goals or taking initiative, Scripture invites us to consider a more purposeful path. When submitted to the kingdom principles the scriptures proclaim, then this methodology is found to be contrary. In trying times, the most profound act of faith is to proactively plan and plant seeds for a future you may not yet fully see. This action corresponds to demonstrating faith for the future. We are acting prudently when we implement the James 2:18 principle whereby our works show our faith. Works are like the spirit of faith.

Let us remind ourselves of the verses in James 2 which reinforce implementing corresponding actions with the faith that we are holding. “But someone will say, ‘You have faith, and I have works.’ Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” (James 2:18) “But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?” (James 2:20) “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” (James 2:26)

You don’t need perfect faith to start somewhere. You only need to use the genuine faith you already have and commitment yourself to act upon that belief. Jesus Christ reinforces our capability to switch from unbelief to trusting God’s ability and declaring with our words, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20)

If we face cultural, economic, or personal mountains today, our response should be a purposeful pursuit of God’s promises rather than a retreat into anxiety. Let us actively build ourselves up, as Jude 1:20 instructs, praying in the Holy Spirit. Let us transform our situation so that the Most High God gets the glory.

Transformation

Reflective Thinking: Ask, what small seed of faith can I plant today through purposeful action, trusting God to help me move beyond the situational mountains before me?

Renewing the Mind: Choose one situational mountain you are facing and replace any anxious thoughts with prayer and the promise from Scripture. Pray in the Holy Spirit and take a purposeful step that plants a mustard seed of faith for tomorrow.
